What is the WXC product line? The WXC (for WAN acceleration with caching) 500 and WXC 250 are the two Juniper Networks WAN application acceleration platforms that support the Network Sequence Caching™ technology, a reduction algorithm that stores data patterns on hard disks to dramatically increase their compression dictionary size. By using hard disks (as opposed to onboard memory), the sequence caching feature extends the Juniper pattern-matching capability from hundreds of megabytes (available with the WX product family) to hundreds of gigabytes.
Why is there a two for one tunnel penalty when connecting WX and WXC devices?
The WX is a memory only based compression device and uses more memory per tunnel when doing compression. The WXC has a disk it can leverage and therefore does not require as much memory per tunnel.
When you connect a WX to a WXC device the WXC has to allocate more memory to form that connection than it would when connecting to another WXC. The actual memory consumed on the WXC is less than what is required for two tunnels in most cases, but in order to provide tunnel scaling numbers that are deterministic we count this as two tunnels in WXOS 5.4 and above.
When WX enables OSPF feature, it does not generate any LSA at all. It is just listening to other LSAs going back and forth through WX. So, from routing perspective, it should not be a problem. Now about the WX scalability question: WX/WXC (except WX15) can hold up to 8192 routes in local route table. So, the quantity perspective, 1300 route is not an issue.
Head 2 head RiverBed 1520 or Juniper WXC
We are on the process of making decision on Riverbed or Juniper wxc wan accelerator. We were wondering if you guys can give us some suggestion. We have 4mbps link between our two sides and we are using following applications and file systemWindows and Linux File, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, MS SQL, MY SQL, Oracle, Exchange 2003, some time Novel, VOIP, Video Conference etcWe have around 300 workstations and 700 users on our remote site.In our price range we could get riverbed SteelHead 1520 and juniper wxc500. Both these products has advantages over others. we will really appreciate if any one of you could give us your experience.
